Visit site

Greg is a de-coupled events plugin for WordPress and Timber developers who need to manage recurring events without the overhead of traditional event plugins. Instead of storing one post per event recurrence, Greg stores recurrence rules (RRULE data) and expands them at query time. This approach reduces database bloat and simplifies data management.

Key features and benefits:

  • RRULE-based storage: Stores start/end dates, frequency, duration, and exceptions as meta fields. Queries return individual event recurrences without creating duplicate posts.
  • Timber-native integration: Works with Timber and Twig templates. Provides Greg\Event objects that wrap Timber\Post with methods for date ranges, recurrence descriptions, and frequency checks.
  • Customizable backend: Does not impose its own admin UI. You build event fields using ACF or similar tools, then map them to Greg via the greg/meta_keys filter.
  • Flexible querying: Use Greg\get_events() with parameters for month, date range, event category, or custom meta/tax queries. Supports expanding recurrences or returning only event series.
  • View override system: Ships with optional Twig views for event lists, category lists, and details. Override any view by placing a file in your theme at views/greg/.
