This plugin automatically generates letter avatars for users who lack a Gravatar image, displaying their initials instead of the default placeholder. Designed for CMS sites using Gravatar, it works by intercepting the avatar function and rendering a colored letter avatar in the browser.

• Fully client-side: No server requests or storage needed for avatar generation. The plugin creates avatars using canvas in the visitor's browser, keeping your server clean and fast.
• Supports Chinese characters: Unlike many letter avatar solutions, this plugin correctly handles CJK characters, making it suitable for multilingual sites.
• Lightweight and zero configuration: At only ~5KB, the plugin adds negligible overhead. Simply install and activate – no settings page required.
• Customizable appearance: Avatars use a random background color from a preset list, with the first character of the user's display name as the letter. The color list can be easily modified.
• Fallback on Gravatar detection: The plugin checks if a Gravatar exists; if not, it renders the letter avatar. If Gravatar is present, the original image is shown. This avoids unnecessary replacements.
