Orbit

Orbit is a must-use plugin for developers who build and maintain WordPress sites for clients. It applies a set of opinionated overrides to the default CMS behaviour, reducing the need for manual configuration on each project. The plugin is designed to simplify the admin interface, protect developer-controlled settings from accidental changes by content editors, and reinforce areas of the CMS that are typically weak.

Key features include:

• UI Cleanup: Remove unwanted menu items, toolbar links, dashboard widgets, and the login logo. An environment icon indicates the current environment type (e.g., development, staging, production).

• Security Hardening: Disable REST API user endpoints, XML-RPC, author pages, and hide the WordPress version from page markup. Sensible security headers are set automatically.

• Branded Emails: Apply consistent branding to all outgoing emails, including Gravity Forms notifications. Uses WooCommerce email branding when available. Templates can be overridden in the theme.

• Capability Restrictions: Restrict access to users, editors, and Gravity Forms based on capabilities. Configurable via filters.

• Safety Measures: Disable robot indexing in non-production environments, disable updates, and load media files from a production URL in non-production environments.

• Health Check Endpoint: Adds /wp-json/orbit/up for quick website availability checks.

All features are toggleable via WordPress filters, allowing developers to enable or disable specific overrides per project.
