The X Starter Theme

Underscores is a starter theme for building custom websites. It provides a minimal foundation with clean, well-commented code, so developers can focus on design and functionality without starting from scratch.

• Ultra-minimal CSS: The base stylesheet is intentionally sparse, giving you a blank canvas to implement your own design without fighting pre-existing styles.
• HTML5 templates: All template files use modern, semantic HTML5 markup, ensuring accessibility and compatibility with current web standards.
• Custom header support: An optional sample custom header implementation is included in inc/custom-header.php, allowing you to easily add header images or text.
• Responsive navigation: A JavaScript file (js/navigation.js) converts your menu into a toggled dropdown on small screens, ready for CSS styling.
• Sample layouts: Two CSS layout files in layouts/ demonstrate how to position a sidebar on either side of the content, saving time on common layout patterns.

Additionally, the theme includes a helpful 404 template, custom template tags in inc/template-tags.php to keep templates clean, and small tweaks in inc/template-functions.php to improve the theming experience. Underscores is licensed under GPLv2 or later, encouraging you to build and share your own creations.
